Miter Saw Station

When I got a real miter saw I decided I wanted a miter saw station but I had a problem. There was no space. The house came with a workbench that was built in the 60s by the original owner. They must have been a carpenter or a woodworker. It originally had two vises and drawers built for chisels. The bench was crudely constructed but has stood the test of time. I had a couple of choices: throw out 60 years of history and build something of my own or modify the existing workbench to suit my needs.

So, I cut it in half….

Swap The Two Halves and Fortify

The ideal spot to split the bench was what I can only describe as a hamper. That left the infeed side shorter than the outfeed so I swapped the halves and reinforced them so they could live as two separate benches.

The Platform, Drawers, and Final Touches

The platform build was straightforward. The area once occupied by the “hamper” was repurposed for drawers. I was able to use the leftover materials for the drawer faces. Add a little paint and t-track and that’s it.

Is it the best miter saw station? Emphatic no! Do I love that this 60-year-old bench is still on the job? Emphatic yes!
